| Ugh. This was such an inconvenience. Walking up all these stairs just to send a letter home. Reyna had made sure to express that and exactly how she felt about it in the letter she had quilled to her parents. At least now they only required weekly letters and not the everyday letters that it once was. The blonde had been quick to point out that there wasn't much to report to warrant her sending a letter every day, and that it was a waste of time that could otherwise be spent on actual studies. It had worked like a charm, so now the Slytherin found herself only needs don't to climb the thousand stone steps to the owlry once a week.
But even once a week was annoying enough to have her irritated as she forced herself the rest of the way up the stairs. Her letter wasn't very long. Just the normal things like requesting something she had forgotten or wanted be sent to her immediately and updates on where she was in classes. There wasn't much else to say, other than that she missed home. Which she did. Reyna dearly enjoyed being treated like the royalty she was, and at Hogwarts there were far too many she considered peasants or less for her to be properly happy at school. Something that ought to be a crime, in her opinion.
The Slytherin witch finally found her footing on the top landing, panting a bit from the long haul up the steps it had taken to get there in the first place. "Whoever decided to put the owlry way up here deserves to die a horrible and painful death. It was probably Gryffindor. Seems like an idiot's decision.." The blonde remarked in her irritation as she headed into the bird sanctuary. She had her eyes looking up into the rafters to try spotting her owl, Seraphene, and because of this, the teen ended up knocking into the obvious body of another human being. Well, they had knocked into her, obviously. Because Reyna had more grace than to ever have walked into someone else.
"Excuse you! Do watch where you are going!" She spoke with haughty words, the hand that wasn't clutching her letter now patting the invisible dirt from the brief contact with the other person off her clothes. "I do not need you ruining my clothes with your filthy self." |

| Sometimes Sami found herself growing quite lonely in the large stone castle, despite how full of students and teachers it was. She just felt so disconnected with the other kids, and she didn’t want to talk to any prodding professors. Last year with the stupid accusations of her ‘self-harm’ was bad enough. No, the Ravenclaw much preferred to simply keep to herself. Even as young as fourteen, she knew she was just too strange for a lot of people to accept or even try to understand, so she shut herself away from them all.
Her feelings of loneliness had led Sami to the owlery, where she had sat for over an hour with only the birds and some mice for company. She was considering writing home to ask for a pet of her own, since Aiden and Axel would be leaving at the end of this year. The little rat scurried out of her sleeve and onto her sweatpants, squeaking and sniffing at the tinier mouse that sat upon her knee.
Observing the two creatures with a smile, Sami had scratched Axel under his chin before finally pulling herself to her feet, leaving the mouse to scurry for his hole before an owl might decide it was hungry. Sami pulled the sleeves of her long sleeve tee down over her hands, the rat having crawled up to perch on her shoulder rather happily.
The Ravenclaw let out a soft sigh and bid the other animals goodbye, feeling like she was leaving the only potential friends she had in the castle, as she could actually interact with them without any fear. The girl was still looking back longingly at the owls in the rafters when she bumped rather roughly into another person, her hands still bare from touching the animals. It was foolish, really, to leave without her gloves in place, but Sami hadn’t thought she’d run into anyone, especially not literally!
Her hand brushed against the other girl’s skin, and the Ravenclaw gasped, staggering to the wall and holding on as she fell to her knees, vision overcome by an onslaught of deep crimson blood. So much blood. Everywhere she looked, it was just blood. Oozing, pooling, and never going away. It was only a small vision, but it had her panting and she couldn’t help but violently retch all over the floor before herself, some strands of her blonde hair getting caught in the sick that would not stay inside any longer.
”Oh, gods… please tell me I didn’t get anything on you…” Sami spoke in a soft, defeated voice. She was worried the ‘filth’ the older girl complained of was the sick that now splattered over the owlery floor, and she’d never been so embarrassed. It was just… oh gods. So much blood. Sami hated blood. ”I’m sorry I… well, I was just… I mean,” Then she narrowed her eyes on the older girl, feeling a bit more irritated. She shouldn’t be apologizing. She went through hell, probably much more than this chick had, and why? Because the girl didn’t watch where she was going? ”Weren’t you watching where you were going?”

| Reyna's lips curled in disdain, even as her blue eyes filled with contempt as they narrowed, watching the clearly younger girl stumble over to the wall to grasp it, only to fall to her knees and be sick all over the place. The Slytherin might have been somewhat concerned, if she hadn't been offended by the fact that the entire scenario seemed to have been from the simple collision the two had had.
The blonde didn't bother in trying to keep from scrunching her nose in disgust as the other's hair got some of the sick-mess all over it. "Ugh. That is entirely disgusting." The Slytherin remarked primly, turning her nose up as she pulled her wand with the jewel-encrusted handle to vanish the mess non-verbally with a simple flick of her wand. The blonde clearly had no intent of being in the same vicinity as something so revolting. Even if it was on the already filthy floor.
Truthfully, the owlry was one place at Hogwarts the seventh year hated to visit, and she always made a point to spend as little time there as possible. The teen did not enjoy the smell of the place, for one. For another, the ground was laden with the skeletons and bones of the unknowing prey the owls swooped down on to use as meals. Furthermore, the place was covered in owl droppings. All in all, it was certainly one place she had no intention of being in for longer than it took to tie the letter to her owl's leg and send Serephene off on her weekly journey.
Even her owl seemed to find the place repulsive, as she could ten be found with her beak in the air much like her owner stuck her nose in the air when it came to things and people she deemed beneath her. Reyna often took the time to apologize to the magnificent dark bird for having to reside in such a place. The room dedicated for owls at home were much cleaner and infinitely more satisfactory. Truthfully, her owl probably lived better at home than a lot of actual humans did at times.
"No, you did not, and you are lucky you didn't. This outfit was made in Paris. You would most certainly would have ruined it with your vomit. Now keep your distance. I do not care for you getting sick again anywhere near me. Perhaps you should visit the Hospital Wing of you are filling ill, or not spend so much time in here. This place would make anyone vomit with it's foul smell."
The blonde replied almost matter-of-factly, holding her arm out in signal for Serephene, her own blue eyes narrowing in response at the audacity of the younger girl, who she looked at like an insect that ought to be squashed. "Excuse me? I do hope, for your sake of course, that you are not insinuating that this is at all my fault, as I do not blunder around in a mess of owl droppings, unlike some people apparently do."
Her tone was scornful, her gaze full of contempt as she looked down upon the girl before turning her nose up at the younger witch again in favor of giving her regal owl, which had soared down from the rafters to land on her outstretched arm, her full attention. Oddly enough, Reyna seemed to immediately soften as her eyes fell onto her familiar, reaching up with her free hand to stroke the soft feathers of the bird gently. "Hello Serephene." She murmured softly to the bird, lips curving up into a smile.
Her current demeanor changed drastically in the moments between her attention turning from the younger girl to the owl on her arm, and Reyna was unintentionally showing a side of herself no one else had ever gotten a glimpse of as she showered her pet with attention and clear affection. The simple interaction seemed to have changed her mood considerably, as she spoke again in a clear tone, though this time it held no venom. "You really should see Madame Pomfrey if you are feeling ill." The Slytherin female added aloud, not looking from her owl while she did. |

| The girl was so rude! Sami couldn’t believe how cruel the blonde was even as she still panted a bit from the images that swirled through her brain. It was horrible, truly, and the girl didn’t even seem concerned about her well-being. In fact, the girl was insulting her simply for spending time in the tower with the owls and mice. There was no reason for the rudeness, and Sami was getting rather… mad.
She’d been about to tell the girl off when she noticed the way the Slytherin and her owl interacted. It was actually… sweet. Strange, but sweet all the same, and she was stunned by the behavior. How could someone so harsh, so mean, be so kind? Perhaps it was something like how Sami herself got along with creatures more than other humans. They understood. They loved her. They wouldn’t show her things she couldn’t handle, things she’d never understand. They were the things she could never change, those things humans showed her. It bothered Sami. Made her feel inadequate that there was nothing she could do.
All she ever wanted to do was save them all.
”Your owl really loves you,” she said softly, feeling a bit foolish for having thrown up and for being so underdressed in comparison to the rather stunning, if petty, girl. ”Sometimes they’re so much easier to relate to, aren’t they? So much easier to trust…” She tucked her hair behind her ear as she approached the girl and the owl, ever observing the interaction with wide, interested eyes.
Sami wrapped her arms about herself and stood with most of her weight on her right leg, left foot moving slightly to scratch the dirty floor. ”I’m sorry I was sick. I just… well, sometimes when I um… touch people… I get a bit overwhelmed. It’s hard to explain in any way that wouldn’t make me sound completely off my rocker.”
She sighed, looking down as she let a hand wander to her pocket and tug out the thick leather gloves that we her biggest burden and her best friend. ”It’s nothing the nurse can help though, unfortunately. Just something that will haunt my nightmares for a while…” Her gloves were soon in place, looking sad and alone. ”Yeah, being sick is the least of my worries though. If that doesn’t creep you out enough, I just have to go and see how you’re gonna die. Like that’s completely normal.”
Sami felt a tear roll slowly down her cheek, but didn’t bother to wipe at it. She was sure the other blonde would just run off soon. Send her owl with the letter and be on her way, away from the girl who should have been sent to the looney bin ages ago. That was how it always seemed to work. Nobody ever stuck around when Sami Henson was honest with them. |

| Reyna, unable to fight the action, rolled her eyes at the younger girl's words. Though her lips continued to keep their curve into a gentle smile as she stroked the soft bird feathers of the owl who looked every bit as arrogant as it's master, and who also seemed to preen under the attention it was getting, also much like it's master. "Of course she loves me. What isn't to love?" The teen questioned back with that haughty tone of hers that was simply what she was born with, clearly suggesting that every bit of he pristine self was to be admired and cherished.
Glancing around, the blonde found that they were quite alone, save for the owls of course, and supposed it couldn't hurt to be a little less..uptight, as usual. After all, people did think the younger year was crazy, so even if she did to around saying she had a somewhat decent conversation with Reyna, who would believe her? "Yes, well, people are not the most trustworthy of creatures. Especially not where I come from. And owls do not speak, therefore they do not spill secrets that should be kept as such."
She replied back briskly, though her tone was a good deal less high and mighty, even if the ever present arrogant lilt was there. Nodding in acceptance of the apology the other blonde gave her, Reyna was prepared to move on to send her owl off with her letter. But one look at the younger witch had her pausing in that notion as she caught the forlorn appearance of the girl as she pulled her gloves on. Gloves weren't in season yet. No wonder people thought the girl was crazy. The ones she was wearing weren't even in style!
The poor lowly creature. She was in dire need of fashion assistance. Perhaps hair assistance too. She was quite pretty, Reyna supposed, but no where near her own beauty. But who was? Certainly none of the other pureblood females in the castle, even if their horrid manners and distasteful actions didn't already place them all beneath her, their looks certainly did. All in all, there was hardly a match for the teen in both pride and beauty as far as competition went. And the muggleborns and halfbloods weren't even close to being on the same field as she was, even if they had both. Their blood worked against them in that manner.
Reyna wasn't about to play big sister though. She had never wanted one and was glad her parents had stopped at her. She quite enjoyed being the princess of the family, and if she had a younger sister she wouldn't be. The blonde was likely to never want daughters either, as she wanted to be the only princess her husband attended to. She was selfish like that, and had no trouble admitting it. But then the girl was rambling on and starting to cry, and she had no clue what to do about it.
"Do not weep. It is highly unbecoming in front of others. And what is this nonsense about seeing me die? I am perfectly alive and will remain so for a very long time, of that I have no doubt." Her tone was matter-of-factly as she responded, sniffing arrogantly once more. But the saddened look of the girl pulled the strings of the heart that so many assumed was like a block of ice, and so Reyna did the only thing she considered worth doing, and what was likely the one nice thing she had ever done for another person. She attempted to console the younger girl and make her feel a bit better. "This is the magical world. Nothing is normal here. Now hold out your arm so that you may hold Serephene. She adores being adored."

| The other blonde was utterly ridiculous- clueless, really. Sami didn't even know what to say to her. She actually laughed when the girl seemed all concerned about the impression Sami's crying might give other people. Like she cared what impressions she was making! Nobody thought she was sane anyway. The way she wandered around looking terrified and wearing those thick gloves meant that most people thought she was some kind of murderer in training.
"It's sweet of you to think that I need to worry about the impressions I make..." she muttered, holding out her arm for the owl and blushing a bit at the simple fact that this obviously rich, obviously well above her girl was letting her bond with the animal that knew her heart. It was a special bond a person made with their pet, and it was wonderful to be allowed to experience a bit of that.
Sami ran her fingers softly over the bird's feathers, smiling at the way it preened. Clearly it loved to be adored just as the other blonde had said. She looked at the girl again with a sadness in her wide eyes. "You are alive right now, yes. That much I can see. But... Well, I've not told many people about this but since I rambled and I have something to explain now I... I'm going to tell you a secret."
The Ravenclaw leaned against the nearby wall, still stroking the owl even as it seemed to grow a bit uneasy. It was as if the animal could feel her fear and reluctance to share what she had seen. Taking a deep breath, Sami looked into the blonde's eyes and said in all seriousness, "You are going to die one day, and I know how."
It was a creepy thing to say to someone, especially when you didn't even know her name, so Sami usually refrained from saying such things, but she just couldn't help it. She shook her head and sighed, letting the bird fly back toward the other girl as she slid down the wall toward the floor yet again. "I don't even know who you are or what you might dream of doing, but I know you'll face a lot of blood loss. I couldn't see your face, so I don't know how old you'll be, but I know they won't be able to staunch it. You're going to die. From loosing too much blood. And there's nothing you or I can do to stop it." She looked at the girl with so much sadness, another tear slipping from a wide eye. "I'm so sorry." |

| Reyna looked to be somewhere between preening at being referred to as sweet, which was a sort of compliment in her mind, and the blonde thrived off of compliments to her person, and disbelieving that the other, younger girl, didn't seem to think she needed to care about impressions. Everyone had to worry about the impressions they made. Of course, Reyna was a bit hypocritical in that sense, as she never seemed to care if she came off arrogant or stuck up. But then again, the teen was often and usually arrogant and stuck up, and mostly to let others know where they fell in the ultimate structure of the world they lived in. Which was beneath her of course.
Either way though, the Slytherin had mostly just been trying to get the other blonde to stop her ridiculous crying, and the idea seemed to have worked. It was a good thing too, otherwise she would have had to resort to something else. Like slapping the girl out of it or something. Reyna's mother had done that to her a time or two when she had thrown a crying fit and forewent all propriety. Needless to say, the action had shocked her enough to have her stop her blubbering and tantrum immediately, and the sting to her cheek was nothing like the sting of her own shame at acting with such little dignity, and her mother's scornful look and words thereafter.
Such thoughts had her regaining her usually regal composure, and smoothing down her impeccable and expensive clothes with a haughty manner after transferring her owl to the other girl. "If that is what you think, it is no wonder you have no friends and that everyone thinks you are insane." She advised, still matter-of-factly, and there was still that arrogant coloring to it as she sniffed primly, looking almost scornfully at the younger blonde. It was quite clear the older teen took no prisoners when she spoke to others. "As it is though, I do not care either way. I was more concerned with you ruining my beautiful ensemble with your blubbering."
Her blonde head lifted just that much higher, her nose arrogantly in the air as she stuck it up at the girl, looking completely indifferent. There could be no question as to whether she cared one wink if the other was crying, or why. Even if she did allow her to handle her familiar. That's what Reyna told herself anyways. Besides, why should she care about the girl crying? It was a disgusting exhibit, really. It made the teen scrunch her nose in distaste.
Of course, the idea of being told a secret was rather interesting to the seventh year, though she hardly showed it. One would never guess she was at all interested in anything the younger girl had to say, to be honest, if judging by the indifferent look on her face, one eyebrow quirking up, as if to say she doubted the other blonde had anything to hide that was worth her time to listen to. Only the slight and subtle widening of her blue eyes when the girl finally got on with it would have told someone who knew her well enough to spot the imperceptible action that she was, indeed, interested.
Her first reaction was clearly surprise, and shock, which she hid well. Her second reaction was to scrunch her nose again, the idea of being covered in blood, even if it was her own pure blood, utterly repulsive to her. The idea that someone could possibly see how it was she would actually die was both intriguing in some masochistic way and frightening, to say the least. Of course, emphasis on possibly. Because the younger girl hadn't said much to convince Reyna at all to take her seriously, even if she was playing the part of saddened quite well.
"I do not believe you. Not only would I never be doing or be involved with anything that would have me losing any amount of blood, much less enough to kill me, but you sound enough like Trelawney for me to conclude that this is an utter hoax. Even if you do play the part well. And I do not appreciate the joke at my expense. To play such tricks is deplorable." Reyna gave the girl a disapproving glare for her trouble, her tone derisive as she finally tied her letter to her owl's leg, taking the time to pull a treat for the precious bird of hers from her pocket, and now all but ignoring the young blonde who was propped up against the wall. Reyna would not allow the younger girl to make a fool and mockery of her, even if the other's ominous words had a shiver coursing down her spine.
She couldn't possibly be telling the truth. She just couldn't. There was simply no way. |

| Of course the girl would react badly. It was only natural that someone would react in such a way when told they were going to die after all. Especially when told they would die in a rather gruesome way. Sami should have been used to those types of reactions, but she wasn't. Somehow she always expected people to believe her, and when they didn't, she was a little crushed.
She was especially upset in this case, as the other blonde had gone from actually being rather nice to being a completely demeaning beast of a woman. The way she spoke to Sami, telling her that she was to blame for her own lack of friends... it stung. It was all her insecurities and all her inner thoughts and fears coming right back to slap her in the face. Merlin, did it hurt.
She gaped at the older girl, feeling so... angry. How dare this spoiled blonde bimbo tell her what she knew or didn't know or what was real or not! How dare she accuse Sami of playing horrible tricks on her!
"You shut your rotten little mouth!" she screamed, hands now free of the owl so that she was able to reach out without thinking and slap the girl hard across the face. As her hand hit the Slytherin's cheek, Sami was overcome by images of blood and the sound of screaming in her ears, which might have been any combination of the scene in her head, herself, or the girl who was no doubt feeling pain at the moment.
This time was much like the last- quick and bloody and inconclusive. They might have been in a medical institution, but Sami couldn't tell for sure, and at this point she didn't really care. "I would never lie or joke about this. Do you think I find it funny to see people dying every time I dare to touch them? Do you think I enjoy knowing my brother won't live to see his children grow up, should he have any? That he will leave me all alone and there is nothing I can bloody do about it?!"
She was in tears again. Sami didn't care. She hated her 'gift' with all her heart and soul, and this girl had the nerve to accuse her of making it all up. "Maybe you don't have a heart, but I do, and I hate seeing the shit I see. I absolutely cannot stand knowing that people are doomed and having no way of saving them. I've been through hell, so don't you dare judge me."
Sami gave the girl a hard look, never breaking eye contact. "And you will die in a horrible way. There's no denying the bloody scene that I've seen twice now. Believe me or don't, I don't care. But it will happen." |

| The younger girl's shriek had Reyna's ears ringing and scared her owl, who hooted in outrage and flew back up to the rafters. The blonde had just turned her narrowed blue eyes back to the other witch when a loud smacking sound reached her ears at the same time a hot, painful stinging erupted across one side of her face. The little ingrate had just slapped her!
Shock was what she felt at first. Then the outrage came, flooding her mind and sparking in her eyes that arose slowly to meet the younger girl's gaze, a hateful look in them. And to think she had been relatively nice to the horrid child! "How dare you lay so much as one of your filthy, disgusting hands on me you cretin!" Oh, she was so angry!
Did no one in this school understand how to act with dignity and grace? Putting your hands on someone was not an act of grace! It was only years of training in acting as such that kept Reyna from wrapping her hands around the younger girl's throat and squeezing. The idea was most satisfying, to say the least, but she was above such crude behavior, and she would not lower herself to the standards of the filth before her.
The blonde pulled herself to her full height, ignoring the stinging of her cheek and pinning the other witch with a look so cold it was entirely possible it could've frozen the younger witch through. "I do not care about you, your brother, or anything to do with the waste of space you undoubtedly are. The fact that you sit here feeling sorry for yourself and whining about how unfair your life is, is pathetic and disgusting."
Reyna's tone was harsh, her words coated in venom and yet she was hardly done. In fact, she had only just begun. "I hate to rid you of your delusions, but if you do not want to be judged, then I would suggest not doing things to be judged on. It is no wonder you are doomed to see the deaths of others and suffer from it. If anyone deserves such a punishment it is the vile little cretin you, and if you think I am cold hearted now, you have seen nothing. Whatever small amount of humiliation you've deluded yourself into thinking I have suffered at your hands, you will suffer one hundred times as much at mine."
It was an ominous end to the interaction that had started out without much issue. The blonde' swords were promising, and her tone cruel. Reyna was not known for being forgiving, and neither was she the kind of girl to brawl physically like some filthy muggle. But she was vengeful, and she would not let the act of physical altercation against her from the younger year to unpunished. Letter all but forgotten, the older witch smiled at the other as she turned and headed back out, thinking that if the girl felt lonely now, she had no idea she was about to be when she became the social leper Reyna was going to make of her. |
