| The Quidditch Player's Handbook
Quidditch is the most popular and exciting wizard sport in the Harry Potter books. At Hogwarts, each house has their own team. Each house team consists of 3 Chasers, 2 Beaters, 1 Keeper, 1 Seeker, and 3 Reserves. In the game, there are 4 balls roaming around: 1 Quaffle, 2 Bludgers, and 1 Snitch. There are 3 goal hoops at the each end of the pitch. The object, is to get the Quaffle into your opponent's goal hoop. Each goal made is worth 10 points. To end the game, a Seeker must catch the Snitch. The Snitch is only worth 150 points, so if the other team had 160 points and you had 0, even though you caught the Snitch, the opponent still wins.
How the game is played
1. You must include at least two paragraphs (150 words) in your post – subject to normal role playing that shows what your player is doing/feeling during your post. This includes any moves you wish to show off.
2. Every post must include a dice roll. You may roll ONLY once. Any post not including a dice roll does not count as a valid move.
3. Each team must take it in turns to post, so no posting right after your team members!
4. As always in role play, no double posting please. This gives others a chance to play, but if a substantial* amount of time of inactivity ensues then we will allow players to post back to back. (e.g. Reni posts, Jake posts, Reni posts, Jake posts – this is acceptable in aforementioned down periods).
5. The number on the die (which goes up to ten) shows how successful your move was, the minimum points per action are as follows: To successfully shoot with the Quaffle during game, you must roll a five or above. To successfully intercept or save the Quaffle, you must either match or roll above the dice roll of the shooter. (e.g. if the attacker rolls a seven, the defender must roll a seven or above to successfully block. A score of six will mean the attacker scores.) Beaters need to roll a seven or above to hit a target successfully. If hit by a successful Bludger, the player who is hit is not allowed to post for three turns. Beaters take note and state clearly who you are aiming your bludger at when posting (e.g Josh swung his bat, hitting the bludger with force and sending to squarely towards Evelyn). To catch the Snitch during the game, the Seeker must first spot the Snitch (an admin will input when and where the snitch can be spotted at various intervals during the game) and give chase, and to actually catch the Snitch they must roll a ten. This will work on a first come, first serve basis. After the admin posts where the snitch is, the first Seeker to respond gets the first chance to catch it.
6. The referee makes all the final decisions – so, no arguing with his/her ruling.
7. Important Note: Do not edit your post. Should you leave out information, forget the dice roll, or misspell something, leave it. Editing your post for any reason is highly suspect and we want a fair, honest game. Preview your posts before hitting the send button but if you find something you don’t like after posting, please refrain from editing.
8. Please remember that being hit by a Bludger is not to be taken lightly, so even though you can still carry on, your skill will be somewhat depleted, and should be taken in to consideration in your posts.
9. And the most important rule, make sure to have fun while you play.
* As determined by the referee
Special Events While playing Quidditch, things aren't always predictable. That's why, before the game, the board moderators pick from a huge list of random events (a random selection btw), and 15 of them are chosen. They randomly throw these events in at any time during the game. We like to call these random events Peeves' Plays, simply because we do. Now, when a moderator posts these PPs, it's first come first serve. These things can be good or bad. They can effect your character, your team, or the whole game. They're completely random. Here's an example: ** Peeves' Play is now available ** ** Cho Chang selects Peeves's Play ** ** Peeves' Play is granted to Cho Chang and clouds move in front of Sun. Winds pick up and begin blowing fiercly. Rain begins falling in thick, steely gray sheets, lowering visibility to almost zero. Congratulations Cho Chang, you've just enacted a storm. ** That's how a Peeves' Play would work
THE RULES
Rules 1. Each player is only permitted one original character on any Quidditch team. You may have more than one book character on a team, for the sake of being canon, but this rule is to allow everyone a fair chance at playing Quidditch. (( Please note: Until we have a large amount of players, rest assured that this rule may be bent reasonably. )) 2. During a match, if a player goes for 24 hrs. without responding, they are out of the game and a reserve must be put in. If the team is out of reserves, then the match is forfeited. 3. Anytime a Seeker RPs seeing the snitch, giving chance and trying to catch it, but does not roll a ten, then they forfeit the chance to the other team. Then the other team's Seeker may RP seeing it, giving chase, and attempt to catch it. If they too fail to roll a 10, then the snitch will disappear until an admin posts its reappearance again. 4. If a player is hit by a bludger twice, they are injured and taken out of the game, and a reserve player must be put in. 5. Do not ignore what is going on around you. If you do end up being hit by a bludger, or any other number of things happen, it should be reflected in your next post. 6. Only ONE dice roll per post. When a game begins, an admin will turn on the dice, which is 100% random. Each position type will have their own die, so simply choose your position (Seeker, Keeper, Chaser, Beater) from the drop down and then send your reply. This can be found under the send button when you reply to a post, and will be on ONLY during Quidditch games. This option is not available with Quick Reply. 7. If you forget to roll or if you use Quick Reply which doesn't have the roll option, then your post is considered invalid and will not count. 8. All regular forum rules apply. No GMing, etc. 9. Quidditch is simply for fun. Our final rule, no excessive unjust complaning, no whining, no bickering, and no taking it too seriously. You must have fun. Our final rule.
Last but not least, ALL Quidditch positions will be filled by those chosen by your House Quidditch Captains. It is the Captain's responsibility to conduct house tryouts, and practices. So for those of you who are considering applying for Captain, or trying out for your house team, please keep this in mind. We do expect to see team practice threads with participation from all its members.
Please Note: All canon characters will need to try out like everyone else, regardless of whether they were on a team or not in the books. This is to keep it fair and to make sure everyone gets a fair chance.
If you have any questions in regards to how the games will be conducted, or about the rules, please feel free to PM either myself or any of the other founders. Thank You all, and have fun! |
